Tips for creating professional resume:
A professional acting resume is a written copy of any previous acting, singing or dancing you might have done. In your resume make sure you list the roles you've played in school, church, scouts, camps and plays/musicals you have done with theater groups. You need not list everything you have done. You only need to emphasize the most important roles and maybe other performances that had some weight. It is advisable to produce an acting resume that accurately presents your experience and achievements.
This document should ideally be a one-page document that lists your Theatrical, Stage, Film, TV and Commercial experience. A good idea is to sub-divide your acting resume so that each part of your career is clearly explained. Training and education, both formal and informal, should be detailed along with membership of professional affiliations (as it pertains to performing, such as dance.) Your training (if any) and all other skills pertaining to performing arts should be included. Other skills may include things like juggling, gymnastics and dialects. Refer to the tips below. Feel free to use the sample resume to edit and type in your student's resume. Resume's should be 1-page max. SAMPLE RESUME
Do not lie about your experience, or make up something just to fill in the skills area
Do not make a resume larger that 8.5in x 11in. If possible, stick to the fundamental size of a one page resume
Your resume should be easily readable by others, so take care to use an appropriate font size
Make sure the headshot shows your face from chest up not a full length shot. No glamour shots or heavy stage makeup and no fancy hairstyles. Your face should be a blank canvas and natural. Also, in the photograph, avoid logo print shirts, crazy patterned clothing and remember ”stripes are yipes and plaids are bad.”
For professional resumes, staple (no paper clips please) photo at all four corners to the back of the resume. Do not cover any information on the resume. For a professional audition, an 8x10 photo should be stapled to the back of your resume (on 8 1/2 X 11 paper) and the resume should then be trimmed to fit the 8x10 photo. For your StageStruck resume, a professional photograph is not required. A small photo can be stapled at the bottom and top of the photo to the upper right hand of the page. Be careful not to cover any of the information on the resume.
Returning students - be sure to update everything on your resume. Besides obvious changes in your age and height etc., be sure to add any productions in which you have been involved since your last resume update. This can include performances at school, church, camp and dance.
Emphasize your education and training to add strength to your resume. Just be sure it is performance related.
